Sunday 16th November 2025

  • Aldwarke: Song Thrush - 1 - singing ; Greenfinch - 6 - probably leaving roost in trees by Aldwarke Lock ; Kestrel - 1 - around Asda car park ; Grey Wagtail - 1 - Asda car park ; Pied Wagtail - 55 - c55; left roost in trees in Asda car park, 0705-0715hrs, all heading NW
  • Aldwarke SF: Water Rail - 1 - calling; not regular here ; Teal - 14 ; Mallard - 8 ; Moorhen - 1+ - 1-2 ; Song Thrush - 1 ; Redwing - 5 - 5+ ; Mute Swan - 2 - adult pair ; Cormorant - 1 - imm, down on lagoon. ; Cetti's Warbler - 1 - single burst of song. First site record for several years. ; Pheasant - 4 - 3m; 1f ; Common Gull - 1 - imm, NE ; Shoveler - 3 - 2m; 1f
  • Aldwarke; Liberty Steels: Peregrine - 2 - adult pair on tower beneath water tank (presumed roost site) briefly, one bird calling
  • Birley Edge: Collared Dove - 7 - Normally only 1 or 2 and not frequent in my smallish garden. A garden record here (33 years) Probably attracted by large numbers of garden birds at the feeding station.
  • Carr Vale NR: Whooper Swan - 9 - flew south ; Pink-footed Goose - 1050 - 1050 pinks in 8 skeins SW (in SBSG air) 08:20-08:35
  • Clough Lane, Porter Valley: Long-tailed Tit - 10+ ; Treecreeper - 1 ; Grey Wagtail - 1 - still in striking plumage
  • Dalton: Common Buzzard - 2 - left towards Bank Wood ; Jay - 1 ; Redwing - 20 - 20+; noisy flock (possible roost site) in hawthorns ; Blackbird - 10 - 10+; in hawthorns ; Long-tailed Tit - 17 - 17+; flock, in hawthorns ; Rook - 6 - around traditional nesting pylons ; Fieldfare - 1 - in hawthorns
  • Dore: Blue Tit - 3 - nectar-feeding from flowering mahonia bush
  • Harthill Res: Pink-footed Goose - 200 - skein flew SW
  • Kimberworth Park: Pink-footed Goose - c300 - one massive skein of c 200+ followed by smaller one about 1 min behind, NW over Remount Road, 08:15
  • Millhouses garden: Blackcap - 1 - female, returning Winter visitor(?)
  • Millhouses Park: Pink-footed Goose - 294 - Skeins of 64 and 230 PFG west between 08:10 and 08:30
  • Orgreave Lakes: Pink-footed Goose - 450 - 2 skeins; 200 + c250 flew west
  • Parkgate: Pied Wagtail - 2 - m & f, feeding in Asda car park @ 0950hrs
  • Poolsbrook CP: Pink-footed Goose - 26 - flew NW ; Whooper Swan - 9 - flew south
  • R Don, Aldwarke: Pheasant - 4 ; Kingfisher - 1 - left downriver ; Cormorant - 1 - N/NE

Saturday 15th November 2025

  • Broomhead Res: Cormorant - 1 ; Chaffinch - 60+ ; Mallard - 200+ ; Goldeneye - 1 - Cracking male at neck end before flying towards centre of res
  • Canklow Woods: Bullfinch - 3 ; Chiffchaff - 1 - brief snatch of song ; Lesser Redpoll - 50+ - flock south
  • Green Moor: Tree Sparrow - 1 ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1
  • Langsett Res: Pied Wagtail - 1
  • Linacre Res: Goosander - 6 - 2 males, 4 redheads ; Tufted Duck - 101
  • Midhope Res: Buzzard - 1 - Calling frequently around noon ; Grey Wagtail - 1 ; Redwing - 1+ ; Mallard - 100+ ; Little Grebe - 2 ; Mandarin - 5 - 3 males, 2 females ; Goldeneye - 1 - Female present for a week at least
  • Millhouses garden: Blue Tit - 3 ; Coal Tit - 2 ; Long-tailed Tit - 6 ; Goldfinch - 8 ; Greenfinch - 6 ; House Sparrow - 8 ; Blackcap - 2 - Male and female feeding on Himalayan Honeysuckle berries ; Redwing - 2 - First time visitors since early Spring
  • Morehall Res: Mallard - 20+ ; Cormorant - 2
  • Redmires Middle Res: Water Pipit - 1 - in SW corner of shoreline
  • Silverwood Lagoon: Cetti's Warbler - 1 - singing on and off ; Spotted Redshank - 1 - present from about 08.55, mostly on northern shoreline but flew to southern end on a couple of occasions, calling frequently. Departed west at 09.05 when disturbed by dog-walkers. Only second record for site, the previous one being back in September 2010. ; Green Woodpecker - 1 ; Rook - 2 - flew west
  • Totley Rise garden: Nuthatch - 1 ; Goldcrest - 2 ; Song Thrush - 1 - Feeding on Rowan berries ; Redwing - 2 - Feeding on Rowan tree ; Long-tailed Tit - 2 ; Great Tit - 2 ; Coal Tit - 2 ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 - Female on apple tree ; Blue Tit - 12 ; Blackcap - 1 - Male eating whole Rowan berries ; Blackbird - 10 - Feeding on Rowan berries
  • Upper Midhope: Fieldfare - 100+ - Feeding in berry bushes ; Meadow Pipit - 1 ; Robin - 1 - Singing in drizzle

  • Norton Lees: House Sparrow - 4+ - very active and noisy in roof eaves before rain set in
